Current Collector
Model #11172 current collectors are
designed to perform the task of grounding the work on a conveyor in
Electrocoat applications. The movable nature of a conveyor creates
special problems in connecting the work to an adequate ground. Poor
ground connection will result in coating failures and rejected product.
These units are rated for 75 amperes
each at voltages to 500. They can be used for either anodic or cathodic
systems. Multiple units are installed to carry the total amperage of the
coating tank. Each unit will contact several links simultaneously
allowing for more distributed current. The units have copper contact
shoes and cables for excellent conductivity. These contacts are spring
loaded and are fully adjustable. This adjustability allows sufficient
pressure for maximum electrical current flow and minimum drag on the
conveyor system.
The unique “floating” design of these
current collectors allows the shoes to automatically adjust to any
offset or twisted chain due to “off center” part loading. This
self-centering feature gives equal pressure resulting in equal wear of
the opposing grounding shoes. In the rare case that the contacts become
worn or damaged by the conveyor, they can be independently replaced.

The pivots of the collector frame have
self-lubricating nylon bushings, which also electrically insulate the
mechanism from any current flow. The collector shoes are electrically
cabled to the grounded conveyor rail. This eliminates intermittent
connections and any possibility of arcing and welding the bearings in
the collectors or the conveyor trolleys.

Model #11172 current collectors are
adjustable to fit either 3” or 4” conveyor rail utilizing various
trolleys with vertical drops between 2 ˝ inches and 4 inches. The
conveyor can be power and free or standard power chain. Other variations
can be manufactured as requested.
